What Is an Ayat in Islam?

An Ayat is a single verse from the Quran. The word itself means “sign,” because every verse is a sign from Allah pointing to His wisdom, mercy, or guidance. The Quran is made up of 114 Surahs, and each Surah is made up of Ayat. Reciting and reflecting on Ayat is a central part of Muslim worship and learning.
