What Does Jibreel Mean in Islam?
In Islam, Jibreel (AS) played a central role as the messenger of divine revelation. Muslims believe he delivered Allah’s messages to many prophets, including Prophet Ibrahim (AS), Prophet Musa (AS), Prophet Isa (AS), and finally Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
Angel Jibreel is especially important because he brought the Quran to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) over a period of approximately 23 years. The first revelation in the Cave of Hira was delivered by Jibreel when he commanded the Prophet to “Read” (Iqra).
