Makharij are the points where Arabic letters originate in the mouth and throat.
Makharij are the precise points in the throat, tongue, lips, and nose where each Arabic letter is produced. Tajweed students learn Makharij early because saying a letter from the wrong place can change a word’s meaning. There are seventeen main points distributed across five general areas.
