The Tawhid meaning in Islam refers to believing that Allah is One, unique, and without any partners, equals, or rivals. Tawhid is the central belief of Islam and the core message taught by all prophets.
What Does Tawhid Mean in Islam?
In Islam, Tawhid means worshipping Allah alone and recognizing that He alone is the Creator, Sustainer, and Controller of everything in existence. Muslims believe Allah has no partners, children, or equals and that only He deserves worship.
The concept of Tawhid is emphasized throughout the Quran and forms the foundation of the Shahadah, the Islamic declaration of faith: “There is no god but Allah, and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.”
Islamic scholars commonly explain Tawhid through understanding Allah’s lordship, His right to be worshipped alone, and His unique names and attributes. Tawhid influences every aspect of a Muslim’s faith, worship, behavior, and relationship with Allah.
Belief in Tawhid encourages sincerity, trust in Allah, humility, and obedience. Muslims strengthen Tawhid through prayer, Quran recitation, remembrance of Allah, and avoiding any form of شرك (Shirk), which means associating partners with Allah.
