What Does Tazkiyah Mean in Islam?
In Islam, Tazkiyah is an important part of personal and spiritual development. It involves removing harmful traits such as pride, jealousy, greed, anger, and arrogance while strengthening positive qualities like patience, humility, gratitude, honesty, and sincerity.
The Quran and Sunnah emphasize the importance of purifying the heart and soul because inner character affects a person’s actions, worship, and relationship with Allah. Muslims practice Tazkiyah through Salah, Quran recitation, Dhikr, fasting, charity, Tawbah, and sincere reflection.
Tazkiyah also encourages believers to control desires, avoid sinful behavior, and remain mindful of Allah in daily life. Islamic scholars describe it as a lifelong journey of improving faith and character while seeking closeness to Allah.
The concept of Tazkiyah reminds Muslims that true success is not only outward worship but also inner purification and sincerity. It helps believers strengthen Iman, improve behavior, and live according to Islamic values with balance and humility.
