Izhar

إظهار / Iz-haar

Izhar is a Tajweed rule in Quran recitation that means pronouncing letters clearly and distinctly without nasal merging or concealment.

What Is Izhar?

The Izhar meaning in Tajweed refers to clear pronunciation. In Quran recitation, Izhar occurs when the letters Noon Saakin or Tanween are followed by specific throat letters, requiring the sound to be pronounced clearly.

What Does Izhar Mean in Islam?

In Islam, Izhar is an important rule of Tajweed that helps Muslims recite the Quran accurately and beautifully. The word “Izhar” literally means “clarity” or “making something clear” in Arabic.

The rule of Izhar applies when Noon Saakin (نْ) or Tanween is followed by one of the six throat letters:

ء (Hamzah), هـ (Ha), ع (`Ayn), ح (Haa), غ (Ghayn), and خ (Khaa).

When this happens, the Noon or Tanween sound is pronounced clearly without nasal blending. Proper application of Izhar preserves the correct pronunciation and meaning of Quranic words.

Learning Izhar is an essential part of studying Tajweed, especially for Muslims working on Quran memorization and recitation. Correct Tajweed helps maintain the authenticity and beauty of the Quran as it was revealed to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
