Rukuh

ركوع / Ru-koo

Rukuh is the bowing position in Islamic prayer (Salah) where Muslims bend forward in humility and worship before Allah.

What Is Rukuh?

The Rukuh meaning in Islam refers to the act of bowing during Salah while placing the hands on the knees and praising Allah. Rukuh is one of the essential parts of Muslim prayer.

What Does Rukuh Mean in Islam?

In Islam, Rukuh represents humility, obedience, and submission to Allah during prayer. After standing and reciting verses from the Quran in Salah, Muslims move into the Rukuh position by bowing respectfully and saying phrases glorifying Allah, such as “Subhana Rabbiyal Adheem” meaning “Glory is to my Lord, the Most Great.”

Rukuh is performed in every Rakat of Salah and is considered an obligatory component of prayer. Muslims are encouraged to perform Rukuh calmly, respectfully, and with concentration as part of proper worship.

The act of bowing reminds believers of Allah’s greatness and the importance of humility in Islam. Along with Sujood (prostration), Rukuh reflects physical and spiritual devotion to Allah.

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught Muslims the correct method of performing Rukuh, and Muslims continue to follow this practice in daily prayers around the world.
