Umrah

عمرة / Um-rah

Umrah is a voluntary Islamic pilgrimage to Makkah that Muslims can perform at any time of the year.

What Is Umrah?

The Umrah meaning in Islam refers to the minor pilgrimage performed by Muslims in the holy city of Makkah. Although it is not obligatory like Hajj, Umrah is considered a highly rewarding act of worship in Islam.

What Does Umrah Mean in Islam?

In Islam, Umrah is a spiritual journey that includes acts of worship such as entering the state of Ihram, performing Tawaf around the Kaaba, walking between Safa and Marwah (Sa’i), and trimming or shaving the hair.

Unlike Hajj, which takes place during specific days of Dhul Hijjah and is obligatory once in a lifetime for eligible Muslims, Umrah can be performed at almost any time of the year. Muslims perform Umrah to seek forgiveness, spiritual purification, and closeness to Allah.

The pilgrimage of Umrah allows believers to worship in the sacred city of Makkah and visit important Islamic sites connected to Prophet Ibrahim (AS), Prophet Ismail (AS), and Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Many Muslims describe Umrah as a deeply emotional and spiritually uplifting experience.

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) encouraged Muslims to perform Umrah and taught its virtues and rewards. The journey reminds believers of humility, devotion, unity, and submission to Allah.
