Surah 51 · 60 Ayahs

What Is Surah Adh-Dhaariyat?

Surah Adh-Dhaariyat is Surah 51 of the Quran. It contains 60 ayahs and was revealed in Makkah.

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

Bismillahir-Rahmanir-Rahim

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

  1. 1

    Ayah 1

    وَٱلذَّٰرِيَـٰتِ ذَرْوًا

    Meaning

    By those (winds) that scatter dust,

  2. 2

    Ayah 2

    فَٱلْحَـٰمِلَـٰتِ وِقْرًا

    Meaning

    then those that bear load (of clouds),

  3. 3

    Ayah 3

    فَٱلْجَـٰرِيَـٰتِ يُسْرًا

    Meaning

    then those that float with ease,

  4. 4

    Ayah 4

    فَٱلْمُقَسِّمَـٰتِ أَمْرًا

    Meaning

    then those who distribute things,

  5. 5

    Ayah 5

    إِنَّمَا تُوعَدُونَ لَصَادِقٌ

    Meaning

    whatever you are being promised is surely true,

  6. 6

    Ayah 6

    وَإِنَّ ٱلدِّينَ لَوَٰقِعٌ

    Meaning

    and Recompense (of deeds) is sure to happen.

  7. 7

    Ayah 7

    وَٱلسَّمَآءِ ذَاتِ ٱلْحُبُكِ

    Meaning

    By the sky, having paths,

  8. 8

    Ayah 8

    إِنَّكُمْ لَفِى قَوْلٍ مُّخْتَلِفٍ

    Meaning

    you are (involved) in a contradictory discussion.

  9. 9

    Ayah 9

    يُؤْفَكُ عَنْهُ مَنْ أُفِكَ

    Meaning

    Turned away from this (Qur’ān) is the one who is turned away (totally from the truth.)

  10. 10

    Ayah 10

    قُتِلَ ٱلْخَرَّٰصُونَ

    Meaning

    Death upon those who make conjectures (against the true faith),

  11. 11

    Ayah 11

    ٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ فِى غَمْرَةٍ سَاهُونَ

    Meaning

    - those who are drowned in ignorance, forgetful!

  12. 12

    Ayah 12

    يَسْـَٔلُونَ أَيَّانَ يَوْمُ ٱلدِّينِ

    Meaning

    They ask, “When shall be the Day of Recompense?”

  13. 13

    Ayah 13

    يَوْمَ هُمْ عَلَى ٱلنَّارِ يُفْتَنُونَ

    Meaning

    (It will be) the Day when they will be heated on the Fire,

  14. 14

    Ayah 14

    ذُوقُوا۟ فِتْنَتَكُمْ هَـٰذَا ٱلَّذِى كُنتُم بِهِۦ تَسْتَعْجِلُونَ

    Meaning

    (and it will be said to them,) “Taste (the punishment of) your mischief. This is what you have been asking to be brought sooner.”

  15. 15

    Ayah 15

    إِنَّ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ فِى جَنَّـٰتٍ وَعُيُونٍ

    Meaning

    The God-fearing (on the other hand) will be in gardens and springs,

  16. 16

    Ayah 16

    ءَاخِذِينَ مَآ ءَاتَىٰهُمْ رَبُّهُمْ ۚ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ قَبْلَ ذَٰلِكَ مُحْسِنِينَ

    Meaning

    receiving what their Lord will have given to them. Indeed, prior to this, they were good in their deeds.

  17. 17

    Ayah 17

    كَانُوا۟ قَلِيلًا مِّنَ ٱلَّيْلِ مَا يَهْجَعُونَ

    Meaning

    They used to sleep little in the night;

  18. 18

    Ayah 18

    وَبِٱلْأَسْحَارِ هُمْ يَسْتَغْفِرُونَ

    Meaning

    and in the hours before dawn they used to pray for forgiveness,

  19. 19

    Ayah 19

    وَفِىٓ أَمْوَٰلِهِمْ حَقٌّ لِّلسَّآئِلِ وَٱلْمَحْرُومِ

    Meaning

    and in their wealth, there was a right for one who asks and for one who is deprived.

  20. 20

    Ayah 20

    وَفِى ٱلْأَرْضِ ءَايَـٰتٌ لِّلْمُوقِنِينَ

    Meaning

    In the earth, there are signs for those who (seek truth to) believe,

  21. 21

    Ayah 21

    وَفِىٓ أَنفُسِكُمْ ۚ أَفَلَا تُبْصِرُونَ

    Meaning

    and in your own selves! So, do you not perceive?

  22. 22

    Ayah 22

    وَفِى ٱلسَّمَآءِ رِزْقُكُمْ وَمَا تُوعَدُونَ

    Meaning

    And in the heavens, there is your sustenance and all that you have been promised.

  23. 23

    Ayah 23

    فَوَرَبِّ ٱلسَّمَآءِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ إِنَّهُۥ لَحَقٌّ مِّثْلَ مَآ أَنَّكُمْ تَنطِقُونَ

    Meaning

    So, by the Lord of the heavens and the earth, it (the Day of Recompense) is a reality, as sure as the fact that you (can) speak.

  24. 24

    Ayah 24

    هَلْ أَتَىٰكَ حَدِيثُ ضَيْفِ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ ٱلْمُكْرَمِينَ

    Meaning

    Has there come to you the story of the honoured guests of Ibrāhīm?

  25. 25

    Ayah 25

    إِذْ دَخَلُوا۟ عَلَيْهِ فَقَالُوا۟ سَلَـٰمًا ۖ قَالَ سَلَـٰمٌ قَوْمٌ مُّنكَرُونَ

    Meaning

    When they (the angels in human form) entered unto him and said, “We greet you with Salām .” He said, “Salām on you.” (And he said to himself,) “(They are) unknown people.”

  26. 26

    Ayah 26

    فَرَاغَ إِلَىٰٓ أَهْلِهِۦ فَجَآءَ بِعِجْلٍ سَمِينٍ

    Meaning

    Then he slipped off to his home and fetched a fattened calf.

  27. 27

    Ayah 27

    فَقَرَّبَهُۥٓ إِلَيْهِمْ قَالَ أَلَا تَأْكُلُونَ

    Meaning

    So he presented it before them (to eat, but being angels, they refrained.) He said, “Would you not eat?”

  28. 28

    Ayah 28

    فَأَوْجَسَ مِنْهُمْ خِيفَةً ۖ قَالُوا۟ لَا تَخَفْ ۖ وَبَشَّرُوهُ بِغُلَـٰمٍ عَلِيمٍ

    Meaning

    So he felt some fear in his heart. They said, “Be not scared.” And they gave him the good news of (the birth of) a knowledgeable boy.

  29. 29

    Ayah 29

    فَأَقْبَلَتِ ٱمْرَأَتُهُۥ فِى صَرَّةٍ فَصَكَّتْ وَجْهَهَا وَقَالَتْ عَجُوزٌ عَقِيمٌ

    Meaning

    So his wife came forward with a clamor, and slapped her own face and said, “(How can I have a child when I am) a barren old woman?”

  30. 30

    Ayah 30

    قَالُوا۟ كَذَٰلِكِ قَالَ رَبُّكِ ۖ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلْحَكِيمُ ٱلْعَلِيمُ

    Meaning

    They said, “This is how your Lord has said. Surely, He is All-Wise, All-Knowing.”

  31. 31

    Ayah 31

    ۞ قَالَ فَمَا خَطْبُكُمْ أَيُّهَا ٱلْمُرْسَلُونَ

    Meaning

    He (Ibrāhīm) said (to the angels), “Then, what is your mission O messengers?”

  32. 32

    Ayah 32

    قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّآ أُرْسِلْنَآ إِلَىٰ قَوْمٍ مُّجْرِمِينَ

    Meaning

    They said, “We are sent to a guilty people, (i.e. the people of Sodom)

  33. 33

    Ayah 33

    لِنُرْسِلَ عَلَيْهِمْ حِجَارَةً مِّن طِينٍ

    Meaning

    so that we may send down upon them stones of clay,

  34. 34

    Ayah 34

    مُّسَوَّمَةً عِندَ رَبِّكَ لِلْمُسْرِفِينَ

    Meaning

    marked by your Lord for the transgressors.”

  35. 35

    Ayah 35

    فَأَخْرَجْنَا مَن كَانَ فِيهَا مِنَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

    Meaning

    So, We let the believers who were there to come out (from danger),

  36. 36

    Ayah 36

    فَمَا وَجَدْنَا فِيهَا غَيْرَ بَيْتٍ مِّنَ ٱلْمُسْلِمِينَ

    Meaning

    but We did not find in it any Muslims, except one house.

  37. 37

    Ayah 37

    وَتَرَكْنَا فِيهَآ ءَايَةً لِّلَّذِينَ يَخَافُونَ ٱلْعَذَابَ ٱلْأَلِيمَ

    Meaning

    And We left in this (event) a sign (of deterrence) for those who fear the painful punishment.

  38. 38

    Ayah 38

    وَفِى مُوسَىٰٓ إِذْ أَرْسَلْنَـٰهُ إِلَىٰ فِرْعَوْنَ بِسُلْطَـٰنٍ مُّبِينٍ

    Meaning

    And (We left a similar sign) in (the story of) Mūsā, when We sent him to Fir‘aun (Pharaoh) with a clear proof.

  39. 39

    Ayah 39

    فَتَوَلَّىٰ بِرُكْنِهِۦ وَقَالَ سَـٰحِرٌ أَوْ مَجْنُونٌ

    Meaning

    So he turned away along with his chiefs and said, “ (Mūsā is) a magician or a madman!”

  40. 40

    Ayah 40

    فَأَخَذْنَـٰهُ وَجُنُودَهُۥ فَنَبَذْنَـٰهُمْ فِى ٱلْيَمِّ وَهُوَ مُلِيمٌ

    Meaning

    So We seized him and his army, and cast them into the sea, as he was of culpable behaviour.

  41. 41

    Ayah 41

    وَفِى عَادٍ إِذْ أَرْسَلْنَا عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلرِّيحَ ٱلْعَقِيمَ

    Meaning

    And (a similar sign was left) in (the story of) ‘Ād, when We sent upon them the wind that was barren (from any benefit);

  42. 42

    Ayah 42

    مَا تَذَرُ مِن شَىْءٍ أَتَتْ عَلَيْهِ إِلَّا جَعَلَتْهُ كَٱلرَّمِيمِ

    Meaning

    it spared nothing it came upon, but rendered it like a stuff smashed by decay.

  43. 43

    Ayah 43

    وَفِى ثَمُودَ إِذْ قِيلَ لَهُمْ تَمَتَّعُوا۟ حَتَّىٰ حِينٍ

    Meaning

    And (a similar sign was left) in (the story of) Thamūd, when it was said to them, “Enjoy yourselves for a while.”

  44. 44

    Ayah 44

    فَعَتَوْا۟ عَنْ أَمْرِ رَبِّهِمْ فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ ٱلصَّـٰعِقَةُ وَهُمْ يَنظُرُونَ

    Meaning

    Then they rebelled against the command of your Lord; so the thunderbolt (of divine punishment) seized them, while they were looking on.

  45. 45

    Ayah 45

    فَمَا ٱسْتَطَـٰعُوا۟ مِن قِيَامٍ وَمَا كَانُوا۟ مُنتَصِرِينَ

    Meaning

    Then they were neither able to stand (before the punishment), nor could they defend themselves.

  46. 46

    Ayah 46

    وَقَوْمَ نُوحٍ مِّن قَبْلُ ۖ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ قَوْمًا فَـٰسِقِينَ

    Meaning

    And (We have destroyed) the people of NūH even before; indeed they were a sinful people.

  47. 47

    Ayah 47

    وَٱلسَّمَآءَ بَنَيْنَـٰهَا بِأَيْي۟دٍ وَإِنَّا لَمُوسِعُونَ

    Meaning

    And the sky was built by Us with might; and indeed We are the expanders.

  48. 48

    Ayah 48

    وَٱلْأَرْضَ فَرَشْنَـٰهَا فَنِعْمَ ٱلْمَـٰهِدُونَ

    Meaning

    And the earth was spread out by Us as a floor; so how well have We spread it out!

  49. 49

    Ayah 49

    وَمِن كُلِّ شَىْءٍ خَلَقْنَا زَوْجَيْنِ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَذَكَّرُونَ

    Meaning

    And from every thing We have created pairs of twos, so that you may heed.

  50. 50

    Ayah 50

    فَفِرُّوٓا۟ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ ۖ إِنِّى لَكُم مِّنْهُ نَذِيرٌ مُّبِينٌ

    Meaning

    So, flee to Allah. Indeed I am a plain warner sent by Him for you.

  51. 51

    Ayah 51

    وَلَا تَجْعَلُوا۟ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ إِلَـٰهًا ءَاخَرَ ۖ إِنِّى لَكُم مِّنْهُ نَذِيرٌ مُّبِينٌ

    Meaning

    And do not make up any other god along with Allah. Indeed I am a plain warner sent by Him for you.

  52. 52

    Ayah 52

    كَذَٰلِكَ مَآ أَتَى ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِم مِّن رَّسُولٍ إِلَّا قَالُوا۟ سَاحِرٌ أَوْ مَجْنُونٌ

    Meaning

    In similar way, no messenger came to those before them, but they said, “(He is) a magician or a madman.”

  53. 53

    Ayah 53

    أَتَوَاصَوْا۟ بِهِۦ ۚ بَلْ هُمْ قَوْمٌ طَاغُونَ

    Meaning

    Have they handed down (this saying) to each other as a legacy? Rather they are a rebellious people.

  54. 54

    Ayah 54

    فَتَوَلَّ عَنْهُمْ فَمَآ أَنتَ بِمَلُومٍ

    Meaning

    So, turn away from them, for you are not blamed.

  55. 55

    Ayah 55

    وَذَكِّرْ فَإِنَّ ٱلذِّكْرَىٰ تَنفَعُ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

    Meaning

    And keep reminding, because reminding benefits the believers.

  56. 56

    Ayah 56

    وَمَا خَلَقْتُ ٱلْجِنَّ وَٱلْإِنسَ إِلَّا لِيَعْبُدُونِ

    Meaning

    I did not create the Jinns and the human beings except for the purpose that they should worship Me.

  57. 57

    Ayah 57

    مَآ أُرِيدُ مِنْهُم مِّن رِّزْقٍ وَمَآ أُرِيدُ أَن يُطْعِمُونِ

    Meaning

    I do not want any sustenance from them, nor do I want them to feed Me.

  58. 58

    Ayah 58

    إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ هُوَ ٱلرَّزَّاقُ ذُو ٱلْقُوَّةِ ٱلْمَتِينُ

    Meaning

    In fact, Allah is the All-Sustainer, Possessor of power, the Strong.

  59. 59

    Ayah 59

    فَإِنَّ لِلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا۟ ذَنُوبًا مِّثْلَ ذَنُوبِ أَصْحَـٰبِهِمْ فَلَا يَسْتَعْجِلُونِ

    Meaning

    So, those who did wrong will have their turn like the turn of their counterparts. So, they should not ask Me to hasten on.

  60. 60

    Ayah 60

    فَوَيْلٌ لِّلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ مِن يَوْمِهِمُ ٱلَّذِى يُوعَدُونَ

    Meaning

    Woe, then, to those who disbelieve because of the Day of theirs that they are promised (for punishment).
