Surah 50 · 45 Ayahs

What Is Surah Qaaf?

Surah Qaaf is Surah 50 of the Quran. It contains 45 ayahs and was revealed in Makkah.

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

Bismillahir-Rahmanir-Rahim

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

  1. 1

    Ayah 1

    قٓ ۚ وَٱلْقُرْءَانِ ٱلْمَجِيدِ

    Meaning

    Qāf . (I swear) by the glorious Qur’ān, (you are sent as a messenger.)

  2. 2

    Ayah 2

    بَلْ عَجِبُوٓا۟ أَن جَآءَهُم مُّنذِرٌ مِّنْهُمْ فَقَالَ ٱلْكَـٰفِرُونَ هَـٰذَا شَىْءٌ عَجِيبٌ

    Meaning

    But they wonder that a warner has come to them from among themselves; so the disbelievers said, “This is something strange.

    Ayah 3

    أَءِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا ۖ ذَٰلِكَ رَجْعٌۢ بَعِيدٌ

    Meaning

    Is it when we die and become dust (that we will be brought to life again?) That is a return, far (from understanding).”

    Ayah 4

    قَدْ عَلِمْنَا مَا تَنقُصُ ٱلْأَرْضُ مِنْهُمْ ۖ وَعِندَنَا كِتَـٰبٌ حَفِيظٌۢ

    Meaning

    We know very well how much of them is diminished by the earth, and We have a Book that Preserves every thing.

    Ayah 5

    بَلْ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِٱلْحَقِّ لَمَّا جَآءَهُمْ فَهُمْ فِىٓ أَمْرٍ مَّرِيجٍ

    Meaning

    Rather, they rejected the truth when it came to them; so they are in a confused state.

    Ayah 6

    أَفَلَمْ يَنظُرُوٓا۟ إِلَى ٱلسَّمَآءِ فَوْقَهُمْ كَيْفَ بَنَيْنَـٰهَا وَزَيَّنَّـٰهَا وَمَا لَهَا مِن فُرُوجٍ

    Meaning

    Did they not, then, look to the sky above them, how We have built it and beautified it, and it has no cracks?

    Ayah 7

    وَٱلْأَرْضَ مَدَدْنَـٰهَا وَأَلْقَيْنَا فِيهَا رَوَٰسِىَ وَأَنۢبَتْنَا فِيهَا مِن كُلِّ زَوْجٍۭ بَهِيجٍ

    Meaning

    As for the earth, We have spread it out, and cast on it firm hills, and caused to grow therein every kind of delightful things,

    Ayah 8

    تَبْصِرَةً وَذِكْرَىٰ لِكُلِّ عَبْدٍ مُّنِيبٍ

    Meaning

    as a source of vision and as a lesson to every servant (of Allah) who turns (to Him for guidance).

  9. 9

    Ayah 9

    وَنَزَّلْنَا مِنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ مَآءً مُّبَـٰرَكًا فَأَنۢبَتْنَا بِهِۦ جَنَّـٰتٍ وَحَبَّ ٱلْحَصِيدِ

    Meaning

    And We sent down blessed water from the sky, and caused to grow therewith gardens and grain of harvest,

    Ayah 10

    وَٱلنَّخْلَ بَاسِقَـٰتٍ لَّهَا طَلْعٌ نَّضِيدٌ

    Meaning

    and towering date palms that have spadices, put one upon another,

  11. 11

    Ayah 11

    رِّزْقًا لِّلْعِبَادِ ۖ وَأَحْيَيْنَا بِهِۦ بَلْدَةً مَّيْتًا ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ ٱلْخُرُوجُ

    Meaning

    as a provision to the servants (of Allah). And We gave life with it to a dead land. Similar will be the exit (of the dead from their graves).

  12. 12

    Ayah 12

    كَذَّبَتْ قَبْلَهُمْ قَوْمُ نُوحٍ وَأَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلرَّسِّ وَثَمُودُ

    Meaning

    It (resurrection) was rejected before them by the people of NūH, and the people of Rass and Thamūd,

    Ayah 13

    وَعَادٌ وَفِرْعَوْنُ وَإِخْوَٰنُ لُوطٍ

    Meaning

    and ‘Ād, and Fir’aun (Pharaoh), and the brothers of LūT,

  14. 14

    Ayah 14

    وَأَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْأَيْكَةِ وَقَوْمُ تُبَّعٍ ۚ كُلٌّ كَذَّبَ ٱلرُّسُلَ فَحَقَّ وَعِيدِ

    Meaning

    and dwellers of Aaikah, and the people of Tubba’. Each one of them rejected the messengers; so My threat came true.

  15. 15

    Ayah 15

    أَفَعَيِينَا بِٱلْخَلْقِ ٱلْأَوَّلِ ۚ بَلْ هُمْ فِى لَبْسٍ مِّنْ خَلْقٍ جَدِيدٍ

    Meaning

    Is it, then, that We were worn out by the first creation? No, but they are still in confusion about the new creation.

  16. 16

    Ayah 16

    وَلَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ وَنَعْلَمُ مَا تُوَسْوِسُ بِهِۦ نَفْسُهُۥ ۖ وَنَحْنُ أَقْرَبُ إِلَيْهِ مِنْ حَبْلِ ٱلْوَرِيدِ

    Meaning

    Indeed We have created man, and We know whatever thoughts his inner self develops, and We are closer to him than (his) jugular vein,

  17. 17

    Ayah 17

    إِذْ يَتَلَقَّى ٱلْمُتَلَقِّيَانِ عَنِ ٱلْيَمِينِ وَعَنِ ٱلشِّمَالِ قَعِيدٌ

    Meaning

    when the two receiving angels receive (every human act to record it), seated (one) on the right and (one) on the left.

  18. 18

    Ayah 18

    مَّا يَلْفِظُ مِن قَوْلٍ إِلَّا لَدَيْهِ رَقِيبٌ عَتِيدٌ

    Meaning

    Not a single word is uttered by one but there is a watcher near him, ready (to record).

  19. 19

    Ayah 19

    وَجَآءَتْ سَكْرَةُ ٱلْمَوْتِ بِٱلْحَقِّ ۖ ذَٰلِكَ مَا كُنتَ مِنْهُ تَحِيدُ

    Meaning

    The daze of death has (to) come with truth. That is what you tried to escape.

  20. 20

    Ayah 20

    وَنُفِخَ فِى ٱلصُّورِ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ يَوْمُ ٱلْوَعِيدِ

    Meaning

    And the Horn will be blown. That will be the day of (which) threat (was given).

  21. 21

    Ayah 21

    وَجَآءَتْ كُلُّ نَفْسٍ مَّعَهَا سَآئِقٌ وَشَهِيدٌ

    Meaning

    And everybody will come, along with one (angel) to drive (him to the field of reckoning) and one (angel) to testify (about his deeds).

  22. 22

    Ayah 22

    لَّقَدْ كُنتَ فِى غَفْلَةٍ مِّنْ هَـٰذَا فَكَشَفْنَا عَنكَ غِطَآءَكَ فَبَصَرُكَ ٱلْيَوْمَ حَدِيدٌ

    Meaning

    “You were heedless of this. Now We have removed your veil from you; so your sight today is sharp.”

  23. 23

    Ayah 23

    وَقَالَ قَرِينُهُۥ هَـٰذَا مَا لَدَىَّ عَتِيدٌ

    Meaning

    And his companion (i.e. the angel who recorded his deeds) will say, “This is what I have with me, ready (to be presented as his record of deeds).”

  24. 24

    Ayah 24

    أَلْقِيَا فِى جَهَنَّمَ كُلَّ كَفَّارٍ عَنِيدٍ

    Meaning

    (Then it will be said,) “Cast, (O two angels,) into Jahannam (Hell) every obstinate disbeliever

  25. 25

    Ayah 25

    مَّنَّاعٍ لِّلْخَيْرِ مُعْتَدٍ مُّرِيبٍ

    Meaning

    who used to prevent (others) from good (behavior), who transgressed all bounds, who cast doubts (in true faith),

  26. 26

    Ayah 26

    ٱلَّذِى جَعَلَ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ إِلَـٰهًا ءَاخَرَ فَأَلْقِيَاهُ فِى ٱلْعَذَابِ ٱلشَّدِيدِ

    Meaning

    who set up another god along with Allah. So cast him (O angels) in the painful punishment.”

  27. 27

    Ayah 27

    ۞ قَالَ قَرِينُهُۥ رَبَّنَا مَآ أَطْغَيْتُهُۥ وَلَـٰكِن كَانَ فِى ضَلَـٰلٍۭ بَعِيدٍ

    Meaning

    His (evil) companion (i.e. the Satan) will say, “O our Lord, I did not cause him to rebel, but he was himself (involved) in straying far from the track.”

  28. 28

    Ayah 28

    قَالَ لَا تَخْتَصِمُوا۟ لَدَىَّ وَقَدْ قَدَّمْتُ إِلَيْكُم بِٱلْوَعِيدِ

    Meaning

    He (Allah) will say, “Do not quarrel before Me, while I had sent to you My threat well in advance.

  29. 29

    Ayah 29

    مَا يُبَدَّلُ ٱلْقَوْلُ لَدَىَّ وَمَآ أَنَا۠ بِظَلَّـٰمٍ لِّلْعَبِيدِ

    Meaning

    The Word is not changed with Me, and I Am not so unjust to My servants.”

  30. 30

    Ayah 30

    يَوْمَ نَقُولُ لِجَهَنَّمَ هَلِ ٱمْتَلَأْتِ وَتَقُولُ هَلْ مِن مَّزِيدٍ

    Meaning

    (Remind them of) the Day when We will say to Jahannam (Hell), “Are you filled up?” and it will say, “Are there some more?”

  31. 31

    Ayah 31

    وَأُزْلِفَتِ ٱلْجَنَّةُ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ غَيْرَ بَعِيدٍ

    Meaning

    And the Jannah (Paradise) will be brought close for the God-fearing, no longer distant.

  32. 32

    Ayah 32

    هَـٰذَا مَا تُوعَدُونَ لِكُلِّ أَوَّابٍ حَفِيظٍ

    Meaning

    (And it will be said,) “This is what you were promised for everyone who was oft-returning to Allah, vigilant (against sins),

  33. 33

    Ayah 33

    مَّنْ خَشِىَ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنَ بِٱلْغَيْبِ وَجَآءَ بِقَلْبٍ مُّنِيبٍ

    Meaning

    the one who feared the RaHmān (The All-Merciful Allah), without seeing Him, and came up with a heart oriented towards Him.

  34. 34

    Ayah 34

    ٱدْخُلُوهَا بِسَلَـٰمٍ ۖ ذَٰلِكَ يَوْمُ ٱلْخُلُودِ

    Meaning

    Enter it in peace. That is the Day of Eternity.”

  35. 35

    Ayah 35

    لَهُم مَّا يَشَآءُونَ فِيهَا وَلَدَيْنَا مَزِيدٌ

    Meaning

    They will have in it whatever they wish, and with Us there are things even more than that.

  36. 36

    Ayah 36

    وَكَمْ أَهْلَكْنَا قَبْلَهُم مِّن قَرْنٍ هُمْ أَشَدُّ مِنْهُم بَطْشًا فَنَقَّبُوا۟ فِى ٱلْبِلَـٰدِ هَلْ مِن مَّحِيصٍ

    Meaning

    And how many a generation We have destroyed before them who were stronger than these in their grip on power, and they searched out the cities. Was there any place (for them) to escape?

  37. 37

    Ayah 37

    إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَذِكْرَىٰ لِمَن كَانَ لَهُۥ قَلْبٌ أَوْ أَلْقَى ٱلسَّمْعَ وَهُوَ شَهِيدٌ

    Meaning

    Indeed, there is a lesson in all this for him who has a heart and gives ear (to the truth) attentively.

  38. 38

    Ayah 38

    وَلَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا فِى سِتَّةِ أَيَّامٍ وَمَا مَسَّنَا مِن لُّغُوبٍ

    Meaning

    We created the heavens and the earth and all that is between them in six days, and no weariness even touched Us.

  39. 39

    Ayah 39

    فَٱصْبِرْ عَلَىٰ مَا يَقُولُونَ وَسَبِّحْ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّكَ قَبْلَ طُلُوعِ ٱلشَّمْسِ وَقَبْلَ ٱلْغُرُوبِ

    Meaning

    So, (O Prophet,) endure with patience what they say, and proclaim His purity, along with your Lord’s praise, before sunrise and before sunset.

  40. 40

    Ayah 40

    وَمِنَ ٱلَّيْلِ فَسَبِّحْهُ وَأَدْبَـٰرَ ٱلسُّجُودِ

    Meaning

    And in hours of night, proclaim His purity, and at the ends of prostration.

  41. 41

    Ayah 41

    وَٱسْتَمِعْ يَوْمَ يُنَادِ ٱلْمُنَادِ مِن مَّكَانٍ قَرِيبٍ

    Meaning

    And listen: The Day when the caller will call out from a near place,

  42. 42

    Ayah 42

    يَوْمَ يَسْمَعُونَ ٱلصَّيْحَةَ بِٱلْحَقِّ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ يَوْمُ ٱلْخُرُوجِ

    Meaning

    the Day they will hear the Cry in reality- that will be the Day of Resurrection.

  43. 43

    Ayah 43

    إِنَّا نَحْنُ نُحْىِۦ وَنُمِيتُ وَإِلَيْنَا ٱلْمَصِيرُ

    Meaning

    Surely We alone give life and bring death, and to Us is the final return

  44. 44

    Ayah 44

    يَوْمَ تَشَقَّقُ ٱلْأَرْضُ عَنْهُمْ سِرَاعًا ۚ ذَٰلِكَ حَشْرٌ عَلَيْنَا يَسِيرٌ

    Meaning

    on the Day when the earth will burst apart exposing them, while they will be hurrying up (to come out). That is an assembly, so easy for Us (to muster).

  45. 45

    Ayah 45

    نَّحْنُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا يَقُولُونَ ۖ وَمَآ أَنتَ عَلَيْهِم بِجَبَّارٍ ۖ فَذَكِّرْ بِٱلْقُرْءَانِ مَن يَخَافُ وَعِيدِ

    Meaning

    We know well what they say, and you are not (sent) as one who compels them. So exhort, through the Qur’ān, the one who fears My warning.
